Vulkan von Lanzarote und regionale Weintour ab Fuerteventura

This was a great trip with regards to the volcano side of things - we saw some magnificent scenery and it was well worth the journey. It was well organised and I am glad we did it. Where the tour let itself down was the 'wine region' as we got dropped off at one pretty basic vineyard and were handed 'sweet' or 'dry' wine in a shot glass and without any info on the wine itself. Everyone drank their wine and that was it... My husband and I ended up running over the road to another more attractive and more professional Bodegas and paying a little extra for a proper tasting of 3 wines.

When we booked the tour it claimed we would be picked up at our hotel/resort. The actual pick-up point was 1¼ miles from our hotel, a 25 minute walk over some pretty poor pavements. Not a good start. The bus arrived 15 minutes late. It was proceeded by person who drove up in a car and dispensed wrist bands. A smile or welcome was not forthcoming. The bus then took us to the harbour where we were offloaded just as a ferry left. We were left at the quayside for 40 minutes without any explanation as to what was happening until the ferry arrived, then we were told to get off at the first stop where we would be met by a guide. The ferry was small and made heavy weather of the crossing. About 15 of the passengers were quite ill. If you don't travel well on sea, then you should think twice about this tour or use the larger ferries and join the tour on Lanzarote if possible. However, once we arrived in Lanzarote, the tour did improve. The guide and driver were very good. We were taken past salt pans, then stopped at an impressive volcano partially eroded by the sea. We then stopped at a vineyard where we were given a taste, and I mean just a taste, of either a dry or a sweet wine. No other description was given. It was here we could buy our lunch if you don't mind being served in a brusque manner. It was very busy due to several tour groups and there was a severe lack of seating. We then moved on to the top of an extinct volcano which had a restaurant on top. We were shown a barbecue pit which used natural heat to cook. Also a demonstration of a geyser as well as the heat that was just below our feet. Note that despite the heat beneath the ground, it was very windy and quite cold. We then drove down twisting roads, through the lava fields, stopping to view particular features. Next was the Aloe Vera museum. We didn't actually get into the museum but were given a very informative demonstration in the sales area before being quickly moved along to the shop. Then it was back to the ferry.
